Though i am not a expert in this, let me say whatever i know about newspaper reading.
Sir, Please have a look at my suggestions given to Thipper below because i myself is an aspirant and may be wrong and i hope you are eager to correct and enlighten us.
1: Never read cine gossips.
2:Just read the Headlines of news regarding to your city, district, state.
3:Don't read news about Murder,Rape, dacoity etc that is totally irrelevant for us.
4:While reading political news you must be extremely careful, you must know how to select which news to read. For eg: If Narendra Modi says something as chief of BJP PARTY then no need to read it but if he says as Prime Minister of India then you cant neglect that news. Dont read about what AAP said and how congress reacted and how BJP replied because these kind of politics happens everyday but if it has an implication in Indian law or any new amendments were made then it should be given importance.
5:EDITORIALS ARE MUST.NEVER EVER LEAVE EDITORIAL,Actually in THE HINDU newspaper whatever that follows editorial section is important and the pages before editorial doesnt have much significance.
6: Dont just read the news and leave it try to research,eg: If you read that India excavated Indians from yeman safely ,then no need to worry about the number of people who have been excavated instead try to know about the problems in yemen and its root.
7:Sports sections just read the headlines,if you find it intersting read it fully.
8:Business and economic section, you can read it only if you have prior knowledge in economics
Hope this helps you.
